We invite new volunteers to share more about themselves with us to: 1.) facilitate connections when prospective students request to connect with alumni with whom they share an interest or identity; 2.) facilitate connections when an AAP volunteer feels it would be beneficial to offer to connect a student with an alumni of a shared interest or identity; 3.) help us better understand the composition of our AAP committees and increase their diversity.

Hybrid Engagement Model

Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, all AAP interviews were conducted in person, with alumni and prospective students meeting up locally. In the last two cycles of AAP interviews, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, interviews were conducted entirely virtually. To meet demand from prospective students and retain both flexibility and access in the interview process, AAP interviews will move forward in a hybrid model, incorporating both interview formats. We expect that AAP volunteers will be amenable to conducting both in-person and virtual interviews. There is a demand for both interview formats, and we hope to honor the medium students prefer, while also accommodating the preferences of our AAP volunteers to the best of our abilities.

For in-person interviews, we ask that volunteers conduct interviews in a safe, accessible, neutral - and preferably professional and public - location, at a time that is agreed upon by both parties and that respects commitments to school, work, activities, and family obligations. Personal homes should not be used for interviews. Ideal locations are coffee shops, public libraries or a professional meeting space.

For virtual interviews, we ask interviewers to independently schedule and host interviews over a video conferencing platform (such as Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime or Skype) with which high school students are likely to be familiar at this point.

Do you have a preference for conducting interviews in a particular format? Please note that this is a preference - we will do our best to accommodate, but assigned interview formats may vary based on requests received.
